It has been considered to install a new submarine cable to provide better internet services, said science and technology minister Mohamed Malyh Jamaal.
There are two fibre optic cable across Maldivies, and the international lines are connected through India and Lanka’s cables.
“We are deliberately thinking to bring another cable to Maldives for the improvement of the connectivity and strong security” said Malyh.
Minister said it is Lanka and Djibouti that has most secure cables, and that if the cable is connected to Maldives, internet security and costs will be amended.
He had also said that it is a long term plan which would cost about 20 or 30 million dollars.
