The United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative to the Maldives, Ms. Shoko Noda, remarked that the future of the country’s democracy looks bright during her farewell call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at the President’s Office this Sunday.
President Solih highlighted and extended his appreciation for all the meaningful work and the impact that UNDP has made on the Maldives over the past several decades and continues to do so, in terms of progressing the Maldives’ socio-economic development. He expressed his gratitude for Ms. Noda in particular for the initiative and passion she has brought to the UNDP’s work within the Maldives during her tenure as the country’s Resident Coordinator.
In response, Ms. Noda thanked the president for his remarks and, looking back at her term, noted that the country is now on a positive trajectory in terms of consolidating the rights and freedoms guaranteed in its 2008 Constitution, and that the future of the country’s democracy looks bright.
Continuing Ms. Noda also assured that the UNDP team, led by her successor would always stand by the Maldivian government and extend support and cooperation to realize its development aspirations.
Ms. Noda also congratulated President Solih on his successful presidential elections, and extended congratulations to the government on the outcome of the parliamentary elections.
Ending the call, Ms. Noda expressed that it was her pleasure to get to have worked in the Maldives, which in many ways has become her second home. President reciprocated her sentiments and reiterated his heartfelt appreciation for Ms. Noda’s numerous contributions to the Maldives and wished her good fortune and success in all of her future endeavors.
Ms. Shoko Noda took office as Resident Representative to the Maldives on October 19, 2014, and is scheduled to leave her post on April 30, 2019.
