Elections Commission (EC) decided to place ballot boxes only in those countries with a minimum of 150 individuals registered to vote in the upcoming Local Council Election in April 2020.
According to EC Member, Ahmed Akram ballot boxes will be placed in foreign countries to provide convenience for voters living abroad.
In addition to this, EC decided that prisons and other facilities must have a minimum of 25 registered voters to be allocated a ballot box while resorts require a minimum voting population of 50.
EC also states that 700 people are expected to vote per box and estimates that the elections would cost between MVR 65 million and MVR 70 million.
