President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with members of the Thaa Atoll Vilufushi Island Council this afternoon to address the islands developmental needs as well as the most pressing concerns of the island’s population.
During the meeting, the councilors discussed the islanders’ demands, which included the construction of an airport, the deepening of the harbor, coastal protection, healthcare facilities, educational needs, and the island’s socioeconomic growth. The councilors also talked about some of the island’s upcoming development initiatives.
President Solih stated at the conference that some initiatives have to be delayed owing to fiscal restrictions brought on by the Covid-19 outbreak. The President, on the other hand, updated the councilors on the various initiatives for Vilufushi Island development included in next year’s budget.
The President updated the councilors on the government’s plans to establish the airport harbor and hospital development projects in this respect. He further added that the issues made by the councilors would be discussed with appropriate line ministries.
Ali Zahir, Chief of Staff in the President’s Office, and Hassan Afeef, Parliament Member for the Vilufushi constituency, attended the meeting with the Vilufushi Council.
