Amendment to Increase Elderly Pension to MVR 10,000 Submitted to the Parliament

An amendment to the current bill that requires the government to increase the pension of MVR 5000 to MVR 10,000 has been submitted to the parliament.

This amendment submitted to the floor by Kaashidhoo representative Abdullah Jabir has been accepted into the parliament and initial debates have been held.

He stated that the amendment was submitted due to the cost of living and necessities that has skyrocketed in the past few years since the law has been in place.

He further added that the government does indeed have the capacity to provide this figure and that he believes the government should cut down on operating costs to meet this milestone.
