The government submits a bill to the parliment transfer the operations of the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) under the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services.
The bill submitted by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Manadhoo MP Ahmed Haroon on behalf of the incumbent administration took its first reading during Wednesday’s parliment session.
While NSPA operations must be carried under the Ministry of Health as per the National Social Health Insurance Act, the operations have been carried out by Gender Ministry without any amendment to the law following the administration change in 2018.
NSPA is an agency that administers the National Social Health Insurance Scheme and regulates and conduct Social Protection programmes under the Social Protection Act.
