President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has asked the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to advise him on nominating Drug Court Judge Mahaz Ali Zahir to the Supreme Court.
President Solih sent a letter to JSC on Thursday asking the commission for advise on his preferred nomination.
Solih is seeking a replacement for Justice Abdullah Didi who was sacked from the apex court by the People’s Majlis last month.
Mahaz, who has a masters degree in comparative law from the Islamic University of Malaysia, has served in the Drug Court for five years.
The Drug Court judge became popular amongst lawyers and judges alike after the JSC suspended him because of an academic article published in his personal blog.
Earlier he worked as a public prosecutor under former Prosecutor General Ahmed Muizzu.
