Maldives is among countries that do not discriminate whilst providing health care relating to COVID-19, states United Nation’s High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet.
In a video conference meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement’s Geneva Chapter, the High Commissioner made the statement of the lack of discrimination based on nationality in providing the necessary care for COVID-19 patients.
Dr. Hala Hameed, Permanent Representative from the Maldives to the United Nations, reassured that the Maldives would continue their efforts to uphold human rights.
Maldives has a large number of migrant worker population from Bangladesh, India and other countries, mostly living in cramped accommodations. And a large majority of COVID-19 cases in the country are Bangladeshi nationals.
