Ministry of Tourism has initiated a project to install water safety boards and lifeguards stands in local islands to ensure the safety of visiting tourists.
Recent trends shows more and more tourists visiting local islands to experience the island life, culture and traditions of the Maldives. This expansion of tourism to local inhabited islands has caused Ministry of Tourism to plan and undertake various measures to ensure the safety tourists.
Minister of Tourism, Mr. Ali Waheed assured that ensuring the safety of tourists is the ministry’s highest priority. He plans on carrying out these services at a world-class level much like in Australia and plans to provide lifeguards with jet skis to add value to their service.
Water safety boards and lifeguards stands will be installed depending on the bed capacity of the islands. An island must have a minimum of 100 bed capacity to have these services in effect. Due to the fact that Hulhumale City has the most number of beds, it will be the first destination to carry out this project.
The installations of the boards will start tomorrow, and by the end of July, these destinations will have an active lifeguard presence according to the minister.
