A total of MVR 4.1 billion worth goods have been imported to Maldives in the month of April reports Maldives Customs.
This amount is an increase of 9% compared to the last year’s MVR 3.8 billion for the month.
The Maldives dependency on imports justifies this increase. However, exports have been significantly low compared to imports.
In 2018, MVR 377 million worth goods were exported while the amount decreased to MVR 324 million this year. This decrease in exports didn’t hinder the total income the import and export industry generated, as a total revenue of MVR 300 million has been made which is an increase of 14% from last year.
According to statistics, the majority of goods were imported from UAE with 23%, closely followed by China while Singapore came in third. Thailand, America and Germany rank as the countries with the most number of exported goods from Maldives.
