The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) recorded a state revenue of MVR 1.3 billion for the month of June. According the MIRA, this revenue was 41% higher than the previous year and 18% higher than the projected estimate.
MVR 769 million was earned in US dollars, amounting to USD 49.9 million.
The Goods and Service Tax (GST) brought in the highest revenue with 35%, followed by tourism land rent fees at 22%.
MIRA had extended tax deadlines in 2017 to July on account of Eid having fallen on June that year. MIRA explain that this was the reason why June 2018 had a higher revenue than the previous year.
The authority also attributed the higher revenue to an increase in land rent fees.
