Ministry of Tourism reports 30 new guesthouses have been opened in the Maldives this year.
The tourism ministry’s statistical reports show that there are currently 548 guesthouses in operation including the 30 new guesthouses that were opened this year. The business of running a guesthouse is rapidly becoming one of the most beneficial businesses in the country.
The government is also profiting from the business as the demand for guesthouses increases as significant revenue has generated from the “Green Tax” charged by the government from tourism businesses reportedly enjoying an increase of 69% in March.
The government is also looking to expand the local tourism businesses and have conducted several meetings with the Island Councils discussing ways they can develop and broaden the business even further.
The future for guesthouse businesses is looking bright as more and more young entrepreneurs are joining the industry.
