Maldives Meteorological Centre has issued a White Alert throughout the Maldives and advised citizens to take caution during travel.
A lot of damage has been caused to houses and properties in this recent storm. They further stated that it is likely that a majority of Maldives will experience this weather within this 24-hour period. In addition to heavy rain, some islands may even experience thunder and lightning as well.
The White Alert was issued today afternoon at 1 PM. In their announcement, Maldivian Meteorological Centre stated that, due to the probability of heavy rain and strong winds, caution must be taken while travelling.
MNDF has been providing assistance in islands that were flooded during the recent downpours. In a tweet by the Chief of Defence Force, Major General Abdulla Shamaal, he stated that troops in MNDF Southern and Central Command have been actively helping the islands suffering from the floods.
Since Wednesday, MNDF has been operating in Laam Atoll Fonadhoo and Maamendhoo and Dhaalu Atoll Kudahuvadhoo.
Island Councils and Police have also been monitoring and aiding in affected areas as well. Moreover, the National Disaster Management Authority has announced that they will also be helping those affected in the recent storms.
