AngelHack, the world’s largest hackathon with over 150,000 developers across more than 150 cities was launched in the Maldives.
Founded in 2011 in San Francisco, USA; AngelHack is a global organization through which developers and entrepreneurs can create software-based solutions to wide arrays of real-world problems. The hackathon is held in various cities every year. The winning team from each city is invited to join the AngelHack Accelerator programme, the “HACKcelerator”.
Organized by Dhiraagu and SparkHub, AngelHack Maldives was launched by Dhiraagu’s Chief Marketing Officer Ahmed Maumoon and SparkHub’s Managing Partner Ali Haris at a ceremony held at Dhiraagu Head Office late Tuesday. The two-day hackathon will be held on July 21 and 22.
At the end of the hackathon, select teams will be invited to San Francisco for Global Demo Day, where they will receive the chance to pitch their startup to investors.
“Previous AngelHack winners around the world have gone on to attend famous incubators, including YCombinator, TechStars, AngelPad, MassChallenge and 500 Startups, and have also received attention from big players in the industry. And this gives a chance for developers and coders of the country to hack into the international market. Together with Dhiraagu, we are very proud to finally bring this to the Maldives,” he said.
Dhiraagu’s acting CMO Maumoon also commended the Maldivian youth leading the local tech industry, praising their talents and creativity. He expressed confidence in their abilities to hold their own on powerful platforms such as AngelHack, and wished local entrants luck in the programme.
“With our focus on youth empowerment and innovation, we are very proud to organize the first and biggest international hackathon in Maldives together with Sparkhub and support the local tech community under our CSR programme. This would be a great opportunity for local developers and coders to take their startup ideas into a global accelerator programme.”
