While Eid is a celebration that all Maldivians take part in, Eid is not celebrated as colourfuly as the other islands in Male’ City. But as of late individuals and private organizations have been trying to change this by conducting special events for the occasion.
According to the City Council, unlike previous years this year, Eid is going to be celebrated on a larger scale in the capital. They further explained that individuals have applied for permission to conduct multiple events that will suit the tastes of people from all age categories.
This includes a special festival for kids with activities such as ‘Fen jehun” conducted in the morning and later in the afternoon, ‘Fen jehun’ and ‘kula jehun’ activities will be carried out in multiple locations for adults.
In addition to these, ‘Maali Nerun’ organized by citizens from Maafannu will be carried out at Social Centre at 4:30 pm with other traditional activities such as ‘Fathi Negun’ and ‘Thaarajehun’ till late in the evening.
Similar activities will also be carried out in Hulhumale, such as, ‘Fen Jehun’, ‘Vaadhemun’ and beach games.
