Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that there is no plan to build a mosque from the financial aid of 106 million rufiyaa provided by the Indian government.
According to the Communication Director of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Miuwan Mohamed, building a mosque has not been included within the scheme of social-economic projects aided by India.
There are a lot of aged and deteriorated mosques all over the Maldives, according to the Islamic Ministry. Currently, even in Hulhumale, two buildings are being used as temporary mosques. The Ministry has been gathering funds to build new mosques and renovate deteriorated ones.
With the Indian Prime Minister Modi’s visit nearing, the Foreign Ministry of Maldives has been broadcasting information about various aids provided by India. According to information revealed by the Foreign Ministry, India is aiding in building classrooms in schools, building a convention centre and in the purchase of ambulances.
