Prime Minister Modi was awarded “The Most Honourable Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddeen” by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih yesterday at a small ceremony held at the President’s Office.
This honour was given to PM Modi as a show of friendship and brotherhood between the nations and to acknowledge the long-standing economic and foreign relations between the countries along with the generous help the Indian government has always given the Maldives over the years.
Other notable heads of states or foreign dignitaries who have been given the honour include the president of Palestine Dr Mahmoud Abbas, the Prince of Saudi Arabia Al Waleed bin Tholaal bin Abdul Azeez Al Saud, the president of South Korea in 1984 Chun Du Hwan and the Duke of Edinburg.
