A recent bilateral trade agreement between India and Maldives has allowed the export of specified quantities of river sand and stone aggregates to the Maldives.
Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) states: “Export of the quantities of river sand and stone aggregates with the annual ceiling has been permitted for export to the Maldives under a bilateral trade agreement between India and Maldives.”
The ceiling fixed for river sand and stone aggregates for 2019 and 2020 was 200,00 tonnes and 800,000 tonnes respectively.
The export is subject to a no-objection from Chemical and Allied Export Promotion Council of India (CAPEXIL), which would monitor the ceiling and send a quarterly report to the directorate.
The committee would also guarantee that adequate clearances have been acquired by suppliers/extractors and that sand mining in the coastal regulatory region has not been undertaken.
The bilateral trade between India and the Maldives have risen by 16 million between 2017 and 2018.
