India has become one of the largest and fastest growing markets for the Maldivian tourism industry in recent years.
According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, there has been an increase of 86% in Indian tourists from the second quarter of last year to the first quarter of this year in comparison to the same time frame last year. This makes India the fifth largest market in the Maldivian tourism industry.
From January to April of this year 48,876 Indian tourists came to the Maldives and it’s a significant growth of 95.3% when compared to the same time period last year. Out of these tourists, 12,823 visited in April which is an astounding increase of 129% when compared to April of 2018. With this growth, India now holds 7.6% of the tourism market in the industry and continues to flourish in the Maldivian tourism market.
All markets are now showing slight increases after a dip in numbers. Chinese tourists have started to increase and stabilize as well with more than 646,000 tourists visiting the country until the end of April. This is an increase of 19.7% in comparison to last year’s figures.
