The parliament member of the Hinnavaru constituency Jeehaan Mahmoud has been elected into the oversight committee to fight human trafficking in the Maldives while the parliament member of Ihavandhoo constituency, Mohamed Shifaau was elected into the clemency board.
The two members were elected for their respective committees in the 5th meeting of the 19th People’s Majlis with 81 unanimous votes.
As specified in Act number 11 regarding forgiving and lessening if the penalty, the 11 member board must consist of a parole board member, a member of the judiciary, specialists from social, health, education and legal sectors, a member elected by civil society and a police officer.
The former member of Ungoofaaru constituency, Jaufar Dhaawood was previously holding the membership of the clemency board in the 18th People’s Majilis.
The newly elected member of the oversight committee, Jeehaan Mahmoud received positive feedbacks from the parliament members regarding electing her as the member of this committee. Jeehaan has previously been working in the human rights commission for five years making her a suitable and an experienced individual for the said committee.
