The speaker of the parliament and the former president of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed in his recent trip to the neighbouring country Sri Lanka, has requested to people of all countries to visit Sri Lanka.
It was his first action upon his arrival at the Katunayake International Airport in Srilanka, to make this request.
The high-level Maldivian delegation included parliamentarians, a group of representatives of the ruling party of the Maldives (MDP) and cabinet ministers. Accepting the invite from Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Vice President of the Maldives also arrived with the delegation. The objective of their short trip to Sri Lanka is to show solidarity after the country’s terrible loss in the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
Mohamed Nasheed assured Maldives’s support and condolences to the government and people of Sri Lanka and deemed the attacks as a calamity and a tragedy that shook Sri Lanka as a whole.
