President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has ratified the bill granting power to the two presidential commissions in the hopes of bringing truth and justice to all Maldivians.
These two commissions on murders and enforced disappearances and on corruption and asset recovery were formed last November and the bill was delayed due to the fact that the parliament failed to pass the resolution from the floor. With the overwhelming majority that the ruling party now enjoys in the parliament the bill was passed last week.
The commissions will provide justice to the alleged corruption and killings carried out during the former presidency of Abdulla Yameen, by allowing strict investigations to be carried out.
The bill was approved from the parliament floor with 67 votes in favor.
