Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that a lot of work is being done to bring Abdulla Luthfee, the man behind the terror attacks of November 3rd, 1998 to the Maldives. However, a lot of complications are delaying the process, according to the Ministry.
He is currently being detained at the Maldivian Embassy in Sri Lanka. Luthfee surrendered himself to the Embassy on the 1st of May.
According to the Foreign Ministry, bringing Luthfee to the Maldives poses a lot of challenges as an Interpol Red Notice has been issued against Abdulla Luthfee.
Further complicates the process is the uncertain prisoner exchange policies between the Maldives and Sri Lanka after the exit of Maldives from the Commonwealth. Luthfee’s illegal Sri Lankan visa and his surrendering closely after the events of Easter Sunday bombings also further aggravates the issue.
The Ministry stated that they are making every effort to bring Luthufee to the Maldives within the confines of the law.
