Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid expressed gratitude towards the countries that have urged to speed up the process of the Maldives being reintegrated into the Commonwealth via tweet.
In his tweet, he stated that India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Canada and Rwanda expressed their wish for the Maldives to be fast-tracked back into the Commonwealth, at the Commonwealth Foreign Minister’s meeting held in London and thanked them for their support.
The Maldives pulled out of the Commonwealth during the presidency of Abdulla Yameen, claiming that the organisation differentiated between the island nation and other countries and meddled in the countries internal affairs.
However, soon after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s inauguration into office, he initiated the process of rejoining the organisation.
