Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid sends his condolence to the Foreign Minister of Nepal, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, regarding the floods and landslides in Nepal due to the monsoon rains.
The floods, landslides and heavy rainfall in different parts of Nepal are causing the loss of several lives, damage to infrastructure, injuries and other losses in the past three days. According to officials, 27 people have died in floods and landslides in the eastern region and the southern plains. The monsoon rains have killed at least 40 people across South Asia in total.
“At this time of distress, on behalf of the Government and the People of the Maldives, I extend our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of Nepal, especially to the members of the bereaved families”, Minister Shahid stated in his letter.
He concluded the letter wishing success for Nepal’s recovery efforts and commending the determination of the people during these difficult times.
The monsoon, which lasts from June to September, causes multiple deaths across South Asia each year.
