The number of people reported with dengue fever has increased compared to the same time period last year according to the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
HPA reveals that there has been a total of 3310 dengue contraction cases reported from Male’, Hulhumale’, Haa Dhaal Atoll, Dhaal Atoll, as well as Laamu Atoll this year and that the numbers have increased drastically in the past two months.
In addition to this, they mentioned that the number of chikungunya cases reported to the agency has also increased from January to May this year, but decreased during the month of June. While 1327 cases of chikungunya infection reported so far this year, the majority of them was from Male’, Raa Atoll, and Gaaf Alif Atoll.
HPA has been working with healthcare professionals and centres to control the spread of these diseases.
