Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid is scheduled to have his first state visit to China on the invitation of Wang Yi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Minister Shahid will begin his two day trip on 19th September where he will pay a courtesy call on Wang Qishan, Vice President of the People’s Republic of China as well.
In addition to this, he is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his counterpart Minister Wang Yi where they will review the bilateral relations between the two nations and discuss ways to sustain and further strengthen the longstanding union while actively contribute to that through joint collaboration in various sectors.
During the former Presidency of Abdulla Yameen, the government received extensive aid from China through grants and loans. The current administration has also stated the importance of remaining ties with the Chinese Government to the development of the Maldives.
