The presidential commission on unresolved murder and death will release the masterminds behind the brutal beheading of Islamic scholar and lawmaker Dr. Afrasheem Ali seven years ago, its President Husnu Suood has said.
The statements comes after Dr. Afrasheem’s brother told the media that his family was hopeless in getting justice.
The former lawmaker was stabbed to death near the staircase of his home building in 2012 as he arrived home from a television interview. Local gangster Hussain Humam was arrested in connection with the murder and was charged after he confessed to the crime.
Suood said he was confident that people behind the planning of the murder will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Confident that the commission will reveal the details of this horrific crime within weeks, including the details of the perpetrators and those who planned it,” he wrote on Twitter.
The Supreme Court has passed a death sentence on Humam. Legislation were made to make way for the execution. However Humam is still in prison.
Dr. Afrasheem’s wife sent a letter to the Supreme Court before it reached a verdict pleading for the life of Humam.
The family said justice will only be done after finding the people who planned to murder Dr. Afrasheem.
