Members of MDP demanded that citizens of Male’ should be provided with lands from Hulhumale’ which has led to a heated debate today at the parliament.
In a debate about the bill that was proposed in order to enhance the decentralized system, member of parliament for Maafannu constituency, Ibrahim Rasheed (Bonde) stated that people of his constituency is not provided with sufficient housing. He added that he was elected by his people to fulfill the promise to provide them with housing at hulhumae’.
Member of MDP asserted that the land of hulhumale’ is a right for citizens of Male’. Due to this, members from local islands including MDP members expressed their dissension regarding the statement.
Member of MDP for Dhaandhoo constituency, Yaugoob Abdulla stated that hulhumae’ is developed for all the citizens in the Maldives and the government should not allow anyone to discriminate against the local islands.
A lot of other parliament members arose their disagreement and concerns regarding the issue in the last parliament meeting.
