President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed Mohamed Shihab as Advisor to the President, on Tuesday.
The ceremony to present the official letters of appointment was held on Tuesday at the President’s Office.
Shihab formerly held the positions of Speaker of the Parliament, member of the Parliament and Malé City Mayor.
Furthermore, he also served as a Finance Minister during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s tenure.
Mohamed Mahir Easa was also appointed as Minister of State for Home Affairs. Mahir Easa previously served as the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and also served as the Atoll Councillor for Faadhippolhu Atoll.
As the previous government had over 400 political appointees, President Solih previously stated that. The number of political appointees of the current administration has now reached 340.
The president also highlighted that the number of political appointees of the current administration would not exceed the number appointed by the former administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.
