An agreement towards countering terrorism under which Japan granting MVR70 million to Maldives was signed by Maldives and Japan, today.
The foreign minister of the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid and the ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Maldives signed the exchange of notes on behalf of the two respective countries.
The exchange of notes was signed by the two governments with a view of further developing unity and cooperative relations between the two countries.
Under the term of the exchange of notes, the government of Japan shall extend to the Government of the Maldives, a grant of five million Japanese Yen which is MVR70 million, for further promoting the economic and social development of the Maldives.
This grant will be utilized for countering terrorism.
The Foreign Minister is accompanying President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on his ongoing official visit to Japan from October 20-27, to attend the Enthronement Ceremony of Emperor Naruhito.
