Police have reported that some of their officers are being investigated for their alleged involvement in the MMPRC scam.

The official audit report on the MMPRC scandal revealed that the state tourism promotion company, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) had embezzled more than US$ 79 million.

On Tuesday 22nd October, Police stated that since October 13 the Police Professional Command has been investigating the officers.

Due to ongoing investigation, the number of officers involved could not be revealed at the time, police said.

“The involved officers are of different ranks. This includes non commissioned officers, commissioned officers, and executive-level officers”, said the police.

The report on the scandal by the Anti-Corruption Commission and audit reports noted the involvement and negligence of several government entities in the execution of the graft.

Recently, the Prosecutor General, Aishath Bisham, disclosed that several members of parliament, judges and ministers of cabinet were involved in the graft.
