On Tuesday, whilst on the route to the Maldives, a cargo vessel carrying perishable goods sunk.
The ship “MSV Ark of Christ” traveled back from Tuticorin, India as it sunk off Maldives 100 miles away.
Coast Guard said Tuesday at 1 p.m. they received reports of the incident. At the time of the incident, nine crew members were onboard the vessel, rescued from the water by a vessel en route from Male’s “MV Progress” to Tuticorin.
“The boat is currently traveling to Tuticorin, India with the rescued crewmen. An Indian coastguard vessel is assisting”, said an MNDF official.
It is currently unclear the exact location where the boat sank and the cause for sinking.
The ship, operated by “Mid Sea Shipping Private Limited,” held 1,500 State Trading Organization (STO) onion sacks. STO said the shipment had been insured.
