The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has made a decision on High Court Justice Shujau Usman to investigate a disciplinary case.
JSC said they deliberated on the issue and formed the decision to pursue the investigation at Wednesday’s committee meeting. The commission will also examine Hussain Shaheed, judge of the High Court, and Ali Musthafa, chief magistrate of Hulhudhuffaaru.
Shujau Usman has supervised high-profile politicians’ trials in both the lower courts and the high court. He was part of the bench of the Criminal Court, which found former President Mohamed Nasheed guilty of terror charges and sentenced him to 13 years in prison.
In August 2018, after High Court Judge Abdulla Didi was elevated to the Supreme Court, Shujau was appointed to the High Court. While Abdulla Didi has now been dismissed from the Supreme Court on a disciplinary issue, this is the first time the parliament has impeached a top court judge.
