On Monday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih addressed issues in the construction industry with representatives of the Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI).
Speaking at the President’s Office conference, senior officials of the MNACI shared their satisfaction with the initiatives in the 2020 State Budget. They noted that the budget had assured the construction industry a productive year.
They also shared contentment with the policies of the government on labor regulations and the transparency of tendering procedures.
Discussions at the meeting also tackled the challenges faced by investors in the construction industry, with a focus on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
Some of the concerns expressed during the meeting include issues faced when international contractors violate established rules and guidelines, lack of regulations overseeing the construction industry’s logistics and transportation infrastructure, and financial constraints faced by local businesses.
During the conference, President Solih questioned how the government can address the challenges faced by the construction industry stakeholders. The president guaranteed that the authorities concerned would work with the ministries to address concerns.
