The driver of the MTCC bus involved in the fatal accident which killed a 13-year old on Tuesday night has been remanded to 7 days in jail.
Police said the driver had been arrested and brought before the Criminal Court, where he was remanded by the court for a seven-day period. Due to ongoing inquiry, no additional information can be released at the moment, police said.
The incident occurred near the end of the highway linking Hulhumale’ and Sinamale’s Bridge on Tuesday night. The 13-year-old girl, who was driven by her mother on the passenger seat of the motorcycle, was flung out of her seat and hit her head when she collided. While the girl died as a result of her injuries in the accident, her mother was not severely injured.
It was documented that after the collision, the bus sped away from the scene. MTCC said the driver was not aware of the crash and all of the passengers on the bus were oblivious to the fact that there was an accident.
