Special operation in Maduvvari leads to 3 arrests

Maldives authorities have arrested a total of three locals from the island of Raa atoll Maduvvari on suspicion of extremism.

According to local reports, Maldives Police in collaboration with Maldives National Defense Force carried out this operation.

Earlier on Wednesday, authorities made arrest of one 30 year old male from the island with ties to extremist ideologies and practice.

In addition to this, local authorities made a second arrest on the same day – this time a 34 year old local male.

As per reports, the third arrest was made around 22:00hrs on Wednesday night.

Moreover, authorities confirm a segregationist group in the island who were violating the rights of women and children.

Furthermore, this extremist movement refrained locals from healthcare and vaccination on pretext of ‘westernized’ medicines being ‘irreligious.’

As such, authorities have continued casing the entire island entering residences falling into their line of suspicion.

Recently, Commissioner of Police claimed the island nation had over 1,400 individuals who conformed extremist notions and ideologies.
