Male’ city council has stated that for the vacant 117 spaces in the travelers market, 2000 applicants has been received until the deadline.
The deadline was until last Thursday and as per the council, approximately 2000 or more applicants have shown interest. Even though the vacant spaces were noted with 117, it is believed that more than 117 spaces in the travelers market will be vacant. For the rest of the spaces, the council has not decided for what to do yet.
Initially, the strategic plan was to give away the 117 spaces and nothing more to be built on but the current Male’ City mayor, Shifa Mohamed has decided to change the plan including more space to the current one. It is reported that this has led to small conflicts between the council members as the travelers market might be built as a three story building.
Travelers Market has been closed for almost 4 months now and yet till date, the council has not decided on a date for the re-opening of the market.
