The Drug Enforcement Department who were working together with Police Intelligence and Marine Police had successfully got a hold of 60.06 kilos of heroin from a local fishing boat, and apprehending 11 people.
This Thursday, in celebration of this affair, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed posted tweets stating that they had been working on this case for 9 days, “After 9 days of good police work, our Drug Intelligence, Operations team of DED and Marine Police have successfully seized 61.06 kg of heroin.”
He also noted that the value of the heroin seized in the case was approximately MVR 72 million.
There was a total of eleven people who have been taken in relation to the case. While four were taken to custody in Male’ City and Suburban Hulhumale’, seven individuals apprehended on the fishing boat. They were all described as from of Maldivian nationality.
The case is still undergoing investigation by police.
