The first tourists once the dust settles and the borders re-opens would be from the from Italy, states Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Company (MMPRC).
In a webinar held with Italian travel companies, MMPRC, the government body mandated with the promotion of Maldives as a tourist destination discussed bringing tourists to the country once the Covid-19 is controlled. The corporation reassured that the interest in Maldives has not waned despite the country’s current predicament as more than 100 travel agents participated in the webinar.
Hailed as the paradise on earth, Maldives closed ts borders and suspended issuing on-arrival visas as a precautionary measure against COVID-19 very early on. The country’s highly dependent economy on tourism has suffered greatly due the virus, as international travel has come to a stand still.
