195 more Bangladeshi nationals have been evacuated back to their country.
The migrant workers were evacuated on a charted on a Maldivian Airlines flight. The seventh repatriation flight to Dhaka now brings the total number of Bangladeshi citizens to over a 1000, of which most are undocumented.
Earlier this month, National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) spokesperson, Mr. Mabrouq Azeez revealed that a total of over 5,000 undocumented workers would be repatriated back to their respective countries in the coming three months.
Most migrant workers are living in the country in inhumane conditions, sleeping congested quarters, and this has made them the most vulnerable group in the pandemic. This is evident as 52 percent of the total COVID-19 cases in the country being Bangladeshi nationals.
