Asian Development Bank (ADB) has revealed that the institution would grant a loan the Maldives USD 25 million as aid and a further USD 50 million as a loan to assist the country’s fight against the pandemic.
The funds are said to be utilized to establish testing mechanisms in five different regions within the country, increase the testing capacity to 800 tests per day and to provide an additional 400 beds for isolation and 200 beds for ICUs.
ADB President and the Chairperson of ADB’s Board of Directors, Masatsugu Asakawa reassured that the institution is prepared to extend further assistance and would continue to do so to minimize the dire consequences of the pandemic on the country’s economy, health and social sectors.
