State attorney’s from the Attorney General’s Office argued in court against the constitutional motion filed in the High Court, labeling the revision to Decentralization Act to establish a quota for women in local councils is unconstitutional, stating that the establishment of the quota is not unconstitutional or constitute gender discrimination.
The case was filed by Jumhooree Party (JP)’s Youth Wing Leader, Moosa Anwar.
The high court is to hold one more hearing of the case which is overseen by a panel of five judges before declaring a verdict.
