Endorsement by the police tow yard that was required while applying for a license is no longer needed during the application, making it easier for people to get their land vehicle license.
According to a transport official, a police endorsement is given within three days, and due to the long ques and the lack of token number, the number of applicants that are unable to get this endorsement is high. If they were unable to gain endorsement in three days they have to fill a tow yard clearance form which delays the entire process. Hence to make this procedure easier and more efficient, the decision to forgo this step was taken by the Minister of transport, Aishath Nahula with the assistance of the police.
Ms. Aishath Nahula also highlighted the future plans to assist those who are unable to take the licence due to traffic fines. According to the current law, if a person has a traffic fine they are unable to take their license without clearing it. She further explains how there are people with traffic fine up to MVR 70,000, which has to lead to an increase in the number of people driving without a licence. She believes it is their duty to create opportunities for citizens to obey the law.
