The Drug Detoxification and Community Rehabilitation centre to be built in Addu city will be financially aided by the Indian government, as stated by the foreign ministry earlier today.
The Indian government provided 6.9 million US dollars to the Maldives, the money will primarily be used to construct the rehabilitation centre in Addu city. According to the foreign ministry, they will require a maximum of 6 million USD out of the 6.9 million USD granted to build the rehabilitation centre.
The ministry has high hopes to achieve the objective of this scheme which is to assist the addicts and take measures to prevent alcoholism and substance. With a number of people being victims of addiction but no care unit good enough to rehabilitate in Addu city so far, the ministry assured that this centre will provide international level assistance and care to the addicts.
They further stated that the scheme will also look into providing proper training to the counsellor and social workers who will work in this rehabilitation centre.
