During a two-day long Global Conference of Media Freedom held on Thursday, the Maldivian ambassador to the United Kingdom, Dr Farahanaz Faisal signed the pledge on behalf of the Maldivian Government.
The pledge commits to empowering the freedom of the media through government action and encourages to speak out and take action together, through a Media Freedom Coalition while reinforcing international initiatives to champion media freedom.
The conference was attended by designates, ambassadors and journalists of various countries and those countries who signed the pledge is said to meet each year to renew their commitments and address emerging threats and opportunities.
