President silent as public outrage over Islamophobic report mounts

The President’s Office has refused to condemn an Islamophobic report by the Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN) despite an overwhelming public outcry to ban the hate spreading NGO. 

The report, titled “Preliminary Assessment on Radicalization in the Maldives”, was released in 2016, but it’s Islamophobic content were brought to public attention on Thursday after it was shared on social media. 

The report seemed to suggest that the beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) supported radicalization. The report also compared the Prophet’s hadiths to mere spoken words by an ordinary man challenging the Muslim beleife of the divinity of Prophet Muhammad’s sayings. 

Swarms of angry citizens called to ban MDN that including former presidents, lawmakers, scholars and teachers. The hashtag #BanMDN was trending on Twitter in Maldives. 

Even Mulslim’s from other countries joined in to call for the ban of MDN after she read the NGO’s report online. 

“I don’t speak your language. So I don’t know what your response is, But you speak my language when you trash my religion with your filthy words. I only need to read that once to know you have an anti Islamic agenda , therefore #BanMDN,” Twitter handle Alkakandiya, said.
