President Solih hoists flag to commemorate National Day

At the function to commemorate the National Day, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih hoisted the Maldives National Flag.

The flag-hoisting ceremony took place this morning at 6:00 in Republic Square. The President was greeted by Home Minister Imran Abdulla upon his arrival at the venue.

After the national flag was hoisted, the Imam of Masjid-al-Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu Al Auzam recited a special dua.

The ceremony was attended by Vice President Faisal Naseem and other senior officials of the government.

National Day is marked annually on the first day of Rabi ‘ al-awwal. The day is held to honor Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam’s conquest, which ended the Maldives’ 15-year-long invasion of Portugal in 1573.
