The Maldives fisheries industry showed positive growth during the third quarter of 2019.
As per stats coming off from Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), fisheries industry saw a rise in fish purchases by fish processing companies.
In addition, the volume of fish exports in the review quarter grew significantly.
According to MMA, fish purchases accelerated by 15% in annual terms over the marginal upturn in preceding quarter.
This brings the total fish purchases to 14,924.9 metric tons while exports grew by 18%.
Thus, the total fish exports weigh 10,238.9 metric tons for the review quarter.
Moreover, the rise in fish export is attributed to the bump in the volume of frozen skipjack tuna and frozen yellowfin tuna exports.
However, the growth was slightly offset by the decline in export volume of canned or pouched tuna products.
