At a press conference held in Iskandhar Koshi, Maldives Police Services has disclosed details about the murder of Gasim Hassan, who was found murdered in Hulhumale’ on December 4th. The motive of the murder was mugging as per the confession given by Adhuham Mohamed who was arrested on December 19th as a suspect. According to his confession, Adhuham said that he was in Hulhumale’ since afternoon trying to mug someone and he targeted Gasim, considering he was someone older.
Adhuham has previous records of robbery, mugging and drug abuse. On the day of the murder he had been using drugs in Male’ and Hulhumale’ and it was to fund his this habit that he attacked Gasim. He forced Gasim to drive the taxi to the road where the Halfway House of Hulhumale’ is located and when his first attempt failed due to nearby passing cars, he forced Gasim to go to this road again at knife-point.
According to the Police the bruises on Gasim’s hand and Adhuham’s confession concluded that Gasim tried his best to save himself during his last moments.
